Blind Contour FRIday 01
Niff

Sutter

Sutter and I decided to share this first official Blind Countour FRIday post. We both drew our big cup o' Pens. This cup is so full of all Sutters dead or dying Microns, sharpies and some of my gel pens and paint brushes...I thought it would be great to draw because it has so much to look at. The red in mine is the red sharpies in there. I think they both turned out great.
Here are some other sites that decided to participate in our Blind Contour Friday:
Rachael Fowler, Bearskinrug, LaureLines, Kimlan Cornell, of Sock Moneky Drawer. and Wally Torta
We thank all you guys for wanting to participate and for making our fridays a lot more fun.
If anyone else wants to participate in next weeks BCF, just let us know.
Happy Friday Everybody!
-Niff (and Sutter)

Hey, I just found your site through a link at Wally's. I couldn't resist dropping a line and saying how incredible your illo style is. I'm totally impressed.

BCF? It has an acronym now, even? Well now it's official. Time for www.bcf.com? :p

I love both your illustrations, wish I could participate but my husband will kill me if I find yet another distraction from earning a living or spending time with him

If I had a Blog I would be game. And don't give me "you don't need a blog, just do it," Where is the fun in that? I can just cheat all the time. "Oh yeah, I did this great BC of a Gorilla riding an Elephant."

OK, these are great and I'm going to keep at it until mine look unblind, like yours and Sutter's. Next Friday!
Posted by: Laura | August 05, 2005 at 09:12 AM
cJw: no BCF.com yet. I am hopping to make a little book with all my BC one day though...
Jones: you don't need a website...hey wait..you HAVE one.
Laura: yours look amazing!...I have been doing this for a VERY long time...but sometimes mine come out waaay off. I am actually amazed that this one has that much form.

Okay, I did one. But what I want to know is, if it's Blind Contour Friday, how come it's first thing Friday morning, and everybody else is already done? Something's not on the up-and-up here. Plus, judging from the results, I'm the only one who actually didn't look. Every single one of you lot cheated.
Posted by: Wally | August 05, 2005 at 09:27 AM
Wally: well, I told everyone in my last BCF post to PLEASE email me if interest! =) nice to see you keep up with our site.
you are added.
ANNND, i did NOT cheat. I can't speak for sutter though. I only looked when i added the red pen, and i didn't look while drawing it! I know how to get around the rules a bit..=) ha.

I tried Blind Contour all morning, but I still need more practice, just to avoid the temptation of looking at the paper. And i'll try something else than indian ink, cause when the pen is dry, the line is over (and so is the drawing)...
My best try is in my URL :)

BCF sounds like a great way to end the week. I'll try it for next time!
By the way, I got my Picnic Mountain and everybody in my house loved it.

Okay,
for ANYONE who is interested in doing a blind contour next friday (or any friday,) there is no topic (as of yet) so, just send me an email if you wanna link to your site, thurday prior, and I will get you linked up. Email niff.nicholls@gmail.com
All you need to do is make sure it's posted on friday. draw anything you'd like. Just has to be drawn without looking at the paper.
I am so excited that so many of you want to participate.
thanks all.

A thought; what about a variant of BCF: mouse bcf - using paint?
(I so need a scanner. :)

cJw:
hurm..i dunno. i think one of the fun things about blind contours is that it gets you away from the computer...a natural drawing exercise - not to mention its permenant. no erasing. once it's down, its down. computers make it a bit too easy to "fix."
Posted by: Niff | August 08, 2005 at 09:55 AM
How do I participate in this? It sounds really fun.

Hi. I'd love to get on your blind contour friday group. I just did my first since college. Very frustrating, but very fun.

I am a middle school teacher and teach blind contour drawing to my 7th graders. We plan on starting our unit tomorrow. Perhaps I will be able to send some examples of their drawings by Friday.
