I stopped on my walk home the other day to draw this corner cafe, which is right across the street from my apartment. I really liked how the shadows from the buildings across the street were falling across the front.
I like the original MUCH better than the scan...it seems like scanners hate watercolors. Nevertheless, it was fun to draw, and luckily I drew it when I did, because I looked at it today and the awning is gone.
It was fun to play with just watercolors and less ink, but I need a lot more practice. I should try drawing from a photo, so the light won't change 10 minutes after you start sketching. Especially in that 6 o'clock light.
Monet was a great man.

Love it.

It is fun to see new Niffish things! I spent a long while the other night going through your archives and was SO impressed. Your work is just great and, though I knew that from your recent things, I know have a better idea of all that you can do. Isn't it odd that you and Sutter and Wally and Harry have inspired me so much with your inkwork that I'm now trying lots more (that I haven't posted yet) ink and doing less wc! The cafe drawing inspires me in another way, as did your Rittenhouse building, but I'll tell you that in another comment later.

Comment Hog

I like how you got that stained stucco look on the side of the building. I feel like if I put that harder yellow in there it would have stood out too much and overpowered it, especially on a blank wall, good thing you're not me.

It's wonderful what you did with the windows- especially the little ones on the door.

Really nice Jen!
All of the different pieces seem to work well with each other. The detail of the awning area surrounded by the simple walls, very pleasant to me eyes.

Thanks guys! I am going to work on getting better before I sell anything, but maybe sooner than later CJW.
I think I could even have gone simpler in some parts, but I am going to keep at it.

The use of color on this is just mind blowing... The door and front window is just perfect.
I'm a huge fan of how you use color. (and your lines too...)
Your "go places" artist this week is wonderful too.... and yes a fantastic person!

beautiful! love all the little details, the grating with the holes, the curly cue shadow from the sign on the adjoining building, the shadows from the windows on the curtains. Glad you were able to get this before the awning was removed! and really really looking forward to the store opening!
